Charity makes the world go ’round

So I had been thinking the past couple of weeks and thought to myself about what I am thankful for (I know it’s not Thanksgiving but bear with me here..) I was thinking about how lucky I am to have my good health, to be able to attend a quite prestigious school in the University of Maryland, all of my friends and family, but mostly that I am in good health. We defiantly take somethings in life for granted when there are people out there who are fighting life threatening and non-life threatening cancers. If you could help make a difference in someone’s life who’s battling cancer would you do it? I know I want to, which is why I signed up! I may not know any of the people I am indirectly helping but knowing that I can help make their life better (possibly) is all I need.

Relay For Life is a great way to get active, be social with others and more importantly help others. Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. The event is through the University of Maryland on April 20th. We shall see how this goes but I am quite excited about it. I have not actually ran in many years so this should be real interesting. And I can’t say that I have been actively trying to get ready for the even either… I’m far too lazy and actually have a lot of school work to do so I’m really happy I found the time to participate.

Besides Relay For Life, I am also participating in TerpThon. If you have never heard about TerpThon or just Thons in general, I will try my best to explain it to you. So TerpThon is a 12 hour party that is held in the University of Maryland’s Cole Field house on March 9th. The event is 12 hours to represent the 12 hour shifts that the nurses and doctors have to work at the Children’s National Medical Center, our local Miracle Network hospital. We as dancers (or fundraisers as they are called) can dance, run around, play games and basically do whatever except for sit down. This is my first time doing this and it sounds like a real challenge but I’m ready and excited! Plus who doesn’t like a challenge??

Anyway, TerpThon looks and sounds really rewarding for all involved; for us the dancers and the children that attend the event. I’m hoping that I get to meet one of the children that attend because that would put everything in perspective for me. They say that the best way to feel the happiest is to help someone, to be selfless and have  a chance to make a difference in someone’s life.

So here is my cliché donation plea: you should help me help make others lives better by donating to either or both of my pages. Both of my personal donation pages are listed below. But I also hope I have inspired you to join any Relay For Life or TerpThon-esk events because they sound awesome and a lot of fun. But really any donation amount helps 10 dollars, 5 dollars, or ever A dollar! It doesn’t matter really because it all adds up.
